TASWI hosted Safe&Sound Executive Director Katie Sanders at its Speaker Series co-organized with Niagara Foundation on Jan 14, 2016. The title of her talk was “Building Community Police Relations: The Role of Dialogue”. There were various community leaders participated to the program. Among the guests were David Patrick and Peter Regenfelder from Greenfield Police Department.

The program started with delicious homemade Turkish refreshments and tea and followed by Katie Sander’s presentation. Sanders described the role of Safe&Sound to increase dialogue opportunities between community and police in Milwaukee. She mentioned youth-specific educational and recreational programs, which she said, would help prepare youth for future and would reduce crime rates within the community. She also shared an introductory video of Safe&Sound, which included further examples how police, non-profit organizations and community residents should work together to increase tranquility within the community.

Sanders also highlighted that the mission of Safe&Sound overlap with the mission of TASWI and Niagara Foundation. She said that increasing dialogue between people of various backgrounds in the community is essential for a more peaceful community.

After the Q&A session, Sanders received a gift from TASWI President.
